CHLD 2048: Guiding the Behaviors of School-Age Children

This course is designed to enhance the child care provider's ability to use positive guidance strategies in working with school-age children.

Course Topics:
  • Identify basic milestones of school-age children's social-emotional and cognitive development
  • Explore the difference between discipline and punishment
  • Recognize the relationship between discipline and self-control or guidance
  • Develop positive guidance strategies
  • Identify strategies for avoiding negative situations
  • Develop a plan that includes family input and coordinated strategies to guide children's behavior
