This course is designed to identify the behavioral characteristics and temperaments of infants and toddlers; to define the differences between guidance and punishment; and to learn age-appropriate strategies and techniques for use with infants and toddlers. The primary focus of this course is to recognize the factors that affect behaviors, to recognize behaviors that are expected to naturally occur, and to recognize that the caregiver's response affects the outcome of the behavior or guidance technique. In addition, the course will address the sequence of developmental milestones, how these milestones influence the caregivers' response behaviors, and provide participants with appropriate behavioral strategies.
