EdVA Program 40-hour field placement is a critical part of Level 1 training and helps prepare students for Level II and a teaching career. Field Placement is not student teaching. Field Placement takes place in the content area in which students elect to become endorsed.
Requirements:
- Meet with assigned teacher and coordinate schedule.
- Develop and maintain an Excel timesheet documenting dates and times of meetings.
- Request an entrance interview with the principal or his/her designee to become acquainted with regulations, procedures and routines of the school.
- Discuss with the teacher any special requests he/she may have and become familiar with the classroom routines and expectations.
- Observe and become actively involved in the classroom and assist the teacher with assigned responsibilities (i.e.: grading papers, changing bulletin boards, etc.).
- Work with small groups and/or the entire class to deliver a mini-lesson that may be designed from the teacher's lesson plans and this lesson should be videotaped and sent to your assigned instructor and one peer.
