Medication Aide

This Medication Aide program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and is designed to meet the training requirements for participants to become eligible to be a Medication Aide.  Medication Aides are responsible for administering medication under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a vocational nurse.  In this program, participants will learn how to administer and assist patients in self-administering medications, including blood sugar checks and insulin injections, in the assisted living environment.  The curriculum includes a minimum of 48 hours of classroom instruction and 20 hours of supervised clinical instruction at an assisted living facility.  Tuition includes the cost of the textbook and classroom materials.  Upon successful program completion, participants will be eligible for the Medication Aide Certification Exam.  Testing fees are not included in the tuition (Virginia Board of Nursing ($50) and the examination at PSI ($70) to become a Registered Medication Aide (RMA).

Pre-Requisites:
  • Must hold a current valid Certified Nurse Aide license and CPR Certification Card
  • Negative Criminal Background Check
  • Negative PD or Chest X-Ray
