Think Again: Building Critical Thinking Skills

Critical thinking is the ability to gather and accurately assess information and evidence in a balanced and reflective way to reach conclusions that are justified by reasoned argument based on the available evidence. Critical thinking is a key skill in today's fast-paced information age with tremendous value across all professions and industries. According to recent surveys conducted by numerous talent management organizations, three out of four (75.7%) executives responded that critical thinking skills and competencies are quickly becoming the most important skills within an organization, especially as the economy continues to improve. The leading causes for the demand of these skills include: the pace of change in today's business environment; global competitiveness; the nature of how work is completed today; and the way organizations are structured.

  • Review 3 strategies for analyzing personal thinking styles and approaches
  • Understand how to adapt to different thinking styles in groups and collaborative environments
  • Identify communication skills necessary for collaborative critical thinking initiatives
  • Discuss creativity (and how to remove barriers to creativity) as a component of critical thinking initiatives
  • Outline a step-by-step process to target a problem or need, develop questions, gather, assess, and analyze information using a variety of critical thinking methodologies
