The Certified Professional Biller (CPB™) Certification course will prepare students for the CPB exam and a career as a medical biller. The CPB™ credential prepares medical billers with skills to maintain all aspects of the revenue cycle. CPBs submit claims compliant with government regulations and private payer policies, follow up on claim statuses, resolve claim denials, submit appeals, post payments and adjustments, and manage collections.

Course Objectives: 
  • Understand various health plans and reimbursement methodologies
  • Understand the regulatory considerations involved in healthcare reimbursement and collections
  • Be able to navigate the process of a physician-based insurance claim — from obtaining patient data and claim form completion to insurance carrier processing and payment posting
  • Understand the 3 major code sets (CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II), how to apply medical necessity standards, and how to use the code books
  • Understand the follow-up process for accounts receivable (A/R) in a physician’s office, including the top denials by insurance carrier along with their appeals process
