Lead Abatement Inspector training provides information for individuals who wish to perform lead-based paint inspections and/or clearance examinations. This course will teach the inspection and clearance procedures outlined in state and federal regulations and guidelines, and legal obligations facing inspectors when inspecting for lead-based paint. This course is approved by Virginia's Department of Professional Regulations, and is a prerequisite to obtaining a Virginia Lead Inspector license.
This 24-hour course includes the required 8 hours of hands-on training and covers the following:
- Background information on lead
- Health effects of lead
- Regulatory review
- Roles and responsibilities of the lead-based paint inspector
- Lead-based paint inspection methods, including selection of rooms and components for sampling or testing
- Paint, dust, and soil sampling methodologies
- Preparation of the final inspection report
- Clearance standards and testing
- Recordkeeping
- Course review and examination
